Storybook

Storybook

These are the drafts we drew. To be consistent throughout the book, we decided to come out with a stanza for all our characters.
We use solid colors throughout the book because children usually prefer solid colors to gradients because it is more eye-catching.

We decided to place the text on the other side of the book because it follows the reading pattern from left to right. Moreover, the storybook will look neater.

To create consistency, we have then, decided, a page with picture, and a page with words works better. To allow more interactivity to take place, we have stickers in there for them to stick on the different pages.

the story line is about this kid, Joe, who is often neglected by his parents and friends. And one day, some miracle happened and his drawing came alive. He went thought a few obstacles and that was when he realize that his parents and friends actually loved him.

Sixth Assignments

In-class assignment

Critic on advertisements

the good ad
The ad that we chose was the heinken ad, where the light bounce upon the tip of the bottle, creating a diamond ring ( the season of the ad was valentine's day). There was a balance in the design principles and the texture they created was smooth ( as they use the gradient to smooth out their corporate colour -green).

the bad ad
The ad that we chose was the Diesel ad. The picture is messy and there wasn't any form of central attraction. The ad is distracting, and too many colours were used in that ad. I undstand that the ad is trying to instill a form of emotions into the ad, but somehow, it fails to instill the 'emotions' in me, rather. it complicates the whole ads.

Fourth Assignment

In-class assignment - anger and harmony

Anger
To use lines and draw out 'anger', i decided to use 'RED', which is often use as a form of 'anger' representation, to draw out angled lines.Diagonal lines gives more feeling of vitality, and sharpness, giving the drawing a more 'impactful' feel.

Harmony

To create a 'peacful' picture, i have chose to use light colours - pink and blue, to create a peaceful
sea scene. No edges in the pictures, no diagonal lines were drawn, but rather, curves were use to create a 'smooth' feeling.

My drafts- Assignment 4

My idea was to use 'save' as the key word. To inform. Hence, being a driver, i thought that the most relevant idea to me would have been either speeding, drink driving, or the safety belt warnings. And there i go, choosing the latter one.

I wanted to bring in some funny elements into the ad because i always felt that the PSA are way too serious to create any impact on the viewers. Hence, i came out with the following after a few drafts.

my master piece

It must have been some CMYK vs RGB coloration. It turns out weird online. But nevertheless, the idea is still there. I chose to be a victim of the accident, but because i was wearing my safety belt, my soul was attach to my body, unable to leave. Hence, it brings out the idea that , the safety belt save your life.

Fifth Assignment

colours and love

I was taking down notes in class, trying to get a nice combi of colours for my card. I think those soft light colors with flowers and ribbons are way too cliche in most 'LOVE' cards, so i thought of playing with more hard colours. Hence, i decided to draw a couple, and using vibrant and 'retro' colours to describe their 'sparks' in love.

Note that the colours i use are mostly sharp solid colours, like red, pink. blue. It gives off a ' fun-loving, 'madly in-love' feel, because of the loud colours used.

Third Assignment

This was the in-class assignment that we have to do. To capture a 'freezing point' that tells a story. I have decided to draw a girl, seating back facing the viewer, as if she is typing or drawing something on the board. Like the example Mr Reddy gave in class, ( the man behind the door), the picture i drew creates a suspense among viewers, as they wonder what is the girl doing.

The picture tells a story, and yet, it allows the viewers to run their own imagination on what the girl is doing.

My drawings - storyboard

After getting feedbacks from the class, i decided to cut the story short.
1. Late night
2. a girl walking home, with some footsteps following behind
3. she quickly make a phone call
4. a hand came grabbing her
5. she turn and scream
6. a guy returning her, her lost purse

creating a suspense helps to bring in the atmosphere of 'danger'
it allows the viewers to participate in thought, what will be the ending?

Second Assignment - losing it's details

here's the in class draft i have came out with.

we have to come out with a realistic illustration of an object ( usually easy to recognise)
and then, we can start to minus all the details, adn reduce it to a point where it's still a represtation of the certain object, but not to the point of abstraction.

this was the in class illustration of both ( indexic and iconic):

as for my assignment 2, i have choosen duck as my image:

hence, here's the images i ahve come out with

thus, i have chosen the 5th image as the representation of a duck.
the 6th image is way off an abstraction, and perhaps, it might give the viewers a different meaning to it. hence, i've choosen the 5th image, because it's still a representation of a duck.

First Assignment - i like /i hate

Here's a few draft that i came out with:

for things that i hate, i came out with four drafts ( on animals)

for animals, i have choosen to use shadows / silhouette because black gives off a 'dislike' feeling, which i think its good to use it in this case. I have came out with a list of ' i hate ____' and i think animals would be easier for me to form alphabets.

For things that i like, i came out with the idea of 'sport

I have chose to use different forms of pictures related to sports, rather than using just human figure as a form of representation. I have choosen the 3rd picture as my final draft because it's unique and it will show my passion and love for sports, as i will be playing with colors for the final draft itself.

here's my final draft for the pictures i chose
Here's the final draft that i have came out with. But after the class consulation, i realise that using colors for ' i hate animals' will perhaps give readers a wrong impression that i like it because of its colors, and vice-verse for the 'i love exercise' pictures.

hence, i have came out with the following

the feedback i got was that the monkey didn't really look like one, and the dolphine is perhaps
alittle too 'stiff'. i will work on my final piece then.
for the exercising draft, most people are fine with it. ( with the thought that my drawing didn't work really well here), but i will play with the colors then, to make it more vibrant and interesting.
